AeroComm Announces "Enhanced API" Feature Set for
All 900MHz Products

December 19, 2005
Lenexa, Kansas, USA

Now standard on all AC4490 RF modules and CL4490 stand-alone transceivers is AeroComm’s “Enhanced API” firmware feature set. Enhanced API gives AeroComm customers the flexibility to dynamically control critical data by finding the best possible communication route in a wireless network.

AeroComm’s Enhanced API is now available on all versions of the AC4490 and AC4790 OEM modules including the trend setting 1X1—the smallest form factor 900 MHz transceiver of it’s kind, the workhorse 200 mW, and the long-range 1 Watt. The API command set includes Transmit API Packet, Receive API Packet and API Send Data Complete.

The Transmit API Packet command gives users the flexibility to send data to a single or multiple transceivers without any additional configuration, as well as to control the number of transmit retries/broadcast attempts used. In addition, the new “probe command” can be used in conjunction with the API commands to determine which nodes are in-range and how strong their signals are.

The Enhanced Receive API command differs from the legacy API Receive Packet command in that it now includes an RSSI, which can be used to determine the strength of the signal received by the remote transceiver.  Continuing AeroComm’s dedication to reliable communication and for applications where packet failure is not an option, the Send Data Complete command can indicate to the host whether or not to resend the data.

“AeroComm strives to listen to the voice of the OEM, knowing that flexibility and ease-of-use are keys to designing wireless systems,” said John Eckart, VP of Sales at AeroComm. “We will continue to create methods to make AeroComm modules the simplest to integrate into industrial applications without sacrificing capability. That’s why we have success in OEM designs worldwide.”

All AeroComm 900MHz transceivers utilize field-proven FHSS technology, employ data-encryption standards and support transmit-power levels of up to one watt, providing for extremely long range between nodes. Reliable, secure, cost effective RF communication makes AeroComm the benchmarking standard for industrial wireless technology.

Developer Tools for the AC4490 and AC4790 are available from AeroComm or Mouser domestically and premier distributors worldwide for $199.00. Quantity pricing for 1,000 units starts at $39.00 for a 200mW device.
